Twelve years ago when I came out to California, there was a man from Los Angeles that captivated me. He was dynamic, charismatic and genuinely wanted to make Los Angeles a better place. His name? Antonio Villaraigosa. I remember reading articles about him and watching his speeches literally dreaming of following in his footsteps. For brown men and women like myself, Antonio proved we, too, could make a difference in our communities. He truly inspired a generation of up-and-coming leaders.
Today, I am running for office and setting large visions for my community because men and women like Antonio Villaraigosa paved the way.
This afternoon, I had the privilege of meeting Antonio, now a candidate for California's governor. Whatever his future, I am grateful for his legacy.
